As hospitals are faced with the need to develop their incident command plans, many have turned to the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS).  This system is a National Incident Management System (NIMS) compliant system designed for hospitals and medical institutions.

The problem with NIMS is sorting through the 78 identified positions to decide which ones to implement for a specific emergency.

A second problem is finding a way to chart the activated positions in the Hospital Command  Center.

Command Concepts and FireWorks Consulting have developed two products designed to help make this process more simple. 

First are our Incident Staffing Guides.  A set of 18 prepared staffing guides provide direction for the initial staffing in the most common types of disasters and emergencies.  Guides are provided for each of the phases - preparatory, immediate, intermediate, extended, demobilization - where appropriate.  Each of the Guides are laminated for durability, and are provided with a carrying case for storing the guides and other supplies.  Included with the hard copy is a CD containing a Visio template with instructions for making additional ISG’s of your own.

The second part of our HICS system is our position tags. Our position tags are fully engraved, color-coded tags with a full magnetic backing.  These tags can be used with any magnetic surface white or chalk board to prepare a staffing chart that is easy to see, and that only shows positions that are activated.  The HICS tag set includes the following:

A total of 97 tags to allow you to quickly assemble your organization chart in your Hospital Command Center.  These tags are available in two sizes to fit the available white board: 1.5" X 3" or 2" X 4".  The smaller tags are suitable for boards as small as 24" X 36".  We recommend the larger size tags for full sized conference room white boards.
